Evil Eddie, a name synonymous with the DIY ethic, classic beats with a pop edge, and all out fun, has been holed up in his own studio for the past year or so, tinkering away like a mad professor and putting the final touches on his debut opus. Now, as Eddie emerges from the lab, he is ready to show the world what he’s been hiding with his crowd funded body of work, Welcome To Flavour Country. Evil Eddie will be showcasing the new tunes in Sydney’s iconic Annandale Hotel TONIGHT as he wraps up the NSW leg of his tour.
His latest single Golden age is a classic blend of beats, samples and pure hop hop magic as he weaves lyrics round the undeniably catchy melody. Check out the tune below and tune into the show this Saturday for more Evil Eddie tunes!

Normally trips back home are all about cups of tea at in the inlaws house and long bouts of motorway driving in the rain. This year was different. Fresh of the plane we jumped on a boat and headed for the last of the UK’s big summer festivals. Nestled on the Isle of White Bestival is a sprawling, sun drenched, hive of activity set in the rolling British countryside. Among the bands included Stevie Wonder, Azealia Banks, Florence and the Machine, Django Django, Roots manuva, Two Door Cinema Club, Ben Howard…. the list goes on and on and on.
Brilliant fun, loads of different areas filled with tents, activities, side shows, food stalls, and places to explore. Bestival was my first British festival in almost a decade and I forgot just how large the venues spread. Stand out acts were The XX and Florence who smashed out Friday nights music. Ben Howard who is a demon on the live stage and random act of the weekend must go to 100% Beefcock and the Titsburster.

This weekend Sydney hip hop group Electric Elements return to Sydney’s Brighten Up Bar in Darlinghurst with ‘Hand That MC A Mic #2′. The high energy outfit take us through their new EP, No Place Like Home, taking time out to explain the music influences behind their EP and how it came to be.
“We wanted to write a little something to introduce our upcoming EP ‘No Place Like Home’. Perhaps even mention the lead single ‘Change Of Heart‘ that we have recently released and that can be found on Triple J Unearthed and YouTube. But we decided against it… Instead, we thought we would put something together on how we got to where we are musically. We have just spent the best part of 12 months writing and recording an EP and that kind of passion for something has to come from somewhere.
Well, as I (Pro MC) write this on behalf of Electric Elements, I realise that the passion most likely comes from my parents to start with, most notably my Dad. There was not a minute of the day he wasn’t playing something. Singing along to whatever came on. Schooling me to Creedence Clearwater Revival, Eric Clapton, BB King, The Beatles and about a thousand others. To this day my iPod is still half full of what he played me as a kid. I know deciBel is the same way. We have known each other long enough for me to tell you that he would not have the passion he does if his Mum wasn’t such a lover of music. Hell, we’ve even sampled vinyls she sourced for us in the past haha!
What we’ve done here, however, is put together a list of four albums that have been instrumental in shaping us, our music and the latest EP in any way. Obviously, there are countless we could have gone with, but we thought we’d pay homage to those Australian Hip Hop albums that have meant something. Enjoy the read.

Kudos to Tone Deaf for surfacing another great Australian band…
“Success never smelled so sweet, I stink of success!” So declared Jay-Z this weekend at a concert in London’s Hackney Marshes. The one time crack dealer was well placed to make such claims coming from ‘rock’ bottom to become one of the richest rappers on the planet.
But is rap an art form that gives the street a voice? Or is it all just money, misogyny and materialism? Is hip-hop the authentic voice of the oppressed that turns anger into poetry and political action – or is it a glorification of all that holds back oppressed minorities and hinders them from mainstream assimilation?
This week, Intelligence Squared and Google+ team up for a never-before-seen global debate on hip-hop. Taking place in London’s historic Barbican Centre and streamed live on the web through Intelligence Squared’s unique Versus courtroom format the event will showcase two brilliant advocates who will grill the panellists to build a case either for or against the motion.
Speakers will be on stage will include Jesse Jackson, Q-Tip, KRS-One, P. J. O’Rourke, Estelle, ?uestlove and many more either appearing on the big screen via Google+ Hangout.
In an exclusive London appearance, virtual reality pioneer Jaron Lanier will face off with critical voices Shaun Bailey, David Cameron’s adviser on youth and crime, Tony Sewell, youth charity founder, and Hattie Collins, music editor of i-D magazine. P J O’Rourke, America’s leading satirist, will be adding his dose of wit and libertarianism on the Hangout from his hideaway in New Hampshire.
