Friends - Manifest!

Friends – Manifest!

So this week I finally got my mits on the new album from Brooklyn based, funk-pop five piece, Friends. The much talked about and highly anticipated Manifest! album finally hit records stores on 1st June bringing with it  “the hottest record in the world” according to BBC Radio One’s Zane Lowe.

Lead singer Samantha Urbani delivers a vast range of vocal stylings with lyrics ranging from whimsical to down right punk over the twelve tracks that make up the Manifest! album. Blending styles haphazardly with a light hearted approach to music the album delivered against the high expectations and continues to receive strong reviews.

Stand out moments are provided by the wickedly nonchalant swagger of  I’m His Girl and Mind Control, the album’s funk laden crescendo. Both singles, the former a previous release the latter the most recent, are a hint of the schizophrenic fun drenched nature of Manifest! Jumping joyously from hip-hop to funk and awkward post-pop-punk the album embraces a care free approach to music making devoted entirely to your listening pleasure.

Check out Manifest! via a your nearest music outlet of choice, a solid first album awaits.

Walk of Shame Greats

Walk of Shame Greats

Thank all of you guys for sticking with the Walk of Shame over the last 100 posts. Through the blog and the show at Bondi Fm I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some amazing people, some mighty fine musicians and damn fine gigs.

When there are so many other music blogs out there it’s great to think you take the time to pass by this little corner of the internet and hang out for a while. It has been an honour to bring you some brilliant music from around the world. I had no idea when I started this with Mr Timmy Magic that it would go so far:

Pickwick gave us our first American flag, with the inspirational Chris Assaad flying the Maple Leaf high for Canadians. Closer to home it has been an absolute delight to chat with the mighty Charlie Mayfair, the beautiful Julia Stone, and the breath taking TigerTown who played live for us after travelling for miles to get here. Between them they make up just a few of the brilliantly talented musicians and bands that have come through the Bondi Fm studio for breakfast.

If you like the last 100 posts be sure to help get the word out by sharing the links of jumping on facebook and hitting the like button, or join the conversation on our twitter stream to put in new music recommendations or requests.

The next 100 posts are sure to be just as exciting so keep on reading on. I will be working harder to bring you the best new Australian music and continue to flirt with our international musical neighbours to make the Walk of Shame an exciting music meeting place, with the radio show as your musical soundtrack for the weekend.

Thanks again and big love!

Ben xx

Little Comets

Little Comets

Newcastle’s Indie rockers, Little Comets are back with a new tune, Worry. If you’ve not heard of them yet they’d sit alongside, Vampire Weekend and Jinja Safari in your record collection. Upbeat, roots music, bob along an ocean of melodies with lyrics that surface like coral cays, brightly lit and full of life.

Sony Music have their releases scheduled for Australia in the new year so keep your eyes peeled for this British mob as they are soon to be getting a bunch of attention our way. For now enjoy the splendour of the latest Little Comets offering with new single Worry.

Sad News

My beloved Mac took a tumble last night. Things aren’t looking too good for Horace. After 2 full years of dedicate daily companionship, I fear he may never recover. This may impact my blogging career slightly as I can’t see the words on the screen anymore…

These are hard times and we appreciate your love and support through the whole ordeal. I’m considering organising a live benefit concert for him… Perhaps penning a little song that can make it as a charity single… We’ll see.

I take him to the doctors later this week. Till then my friends, we may have to communicate telepathically or something.

Peace out xx

Gil Scott-Heron, the grandfather of hip-hop has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of biting, beatnic political comment.

As famous for his long time drug addiction as for his music, which includes classics such as This revolution will not be televised, The Bottle, and more recently the collaborative work with Jamie XX on XL recordings. Below is the stand out track for tht album I’m new here: I’ll take Care of You

Rest in Peace Gil Scott-Heron
